1.13. Prices, Rounding and VAT

Below you will find the rules of rounding and VAT in SmartWeb.

SmartWeb rounding

As a standard, SmartWeb always rounds off to the second decimal. This function does not relate to currency rounding, which automatically rounds off to the closest whole number.

Standard rounding in SmartWeb rounds up from the number 5 and upwards and rounds numbers below 5 down. Please note that differences can occur as an effect.

The example below demonstrates the standard rounding:

  • 5,235 is round up to -> 5,24, last decimal (5 is round up)
  • 5,234 is round down to -> 5,23, last decimal (4 is round down)

Read more about the rounding rules here.

SmartWeb VAT calculation

SmartWeb calculates the VAT rate based on the country of delivery. That is, the VAT on sales for the order follows the country of delivery, i.e. the country where the package is delivered to. Country of delivery is set up in SmartWeb under CONTROL PANEL > COUNTRY OF DELIVERY AND VAT. As a standard setting, SmartWeb is set up to sell to Denmark. If you wish to control VAT zones manually, you can do so by clicking "Manual calculation of VAT rates".

SmartWeb is set up with the following standard VAT zones:

  Private Business
Sales in Denmark 25 % VAT 25 % VAT
Sales within EU 25 % VAT 0 % VAT
Sales outside EU 0 % VAT 0 % VAT
SmartWeb is as a standard supporting VAT-zones for Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Poland, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Portugal.

Notice that you can choose if the prices are including or excluding VAT. You can change this under: Control panel > Shop settings.
If you wish to sell from different language layers with each their own VAT-zone, then SmartWeb recommend you to type in process excluding VAT. Otherwise will the VAT be extracted from the amount and then again be added. This will create confusion.
